Happy Monday Lovelies! I hope your Monday has gone well. It’s a start of a new week and we’ve waved goodbye to another weekend. Here in Iowa Springtime decided to pop in and it was AMAZING! We’ve been relatively lucky in our little corner of the world and Winter has been fairly mild. I don’t think we’ve seen a decent amount of snow since Christmas. I’m totally okay with that of course but the lack of snow has just left us with mostly gray skies and bare scenery. That was until this weekend! Mondays mean Weekend Recap time!
First- Valentine’s Day Recap
I didn’t want to leave out a quick recap of the Love holiday that we celebrated this past week. As Valentine’s Day fell on Tuesday we did most of our Valentine’s celebrating the weekend before. We didn’t totally ignore this sweet holiday during the week, though. In the morning we enjoyed some festive donuts for breakfast and Addie wore the adorable outfit that her Mema sent her just for the day.
Addie’s preschool class threw a Valentine’s Day Party and since it didn’t fall on a Wednesday I got to be there! As has been the custom, Addie’s preschool teacher provided a fun game and then we decorated a sweet treat! Addie had a lot of fun decorating her sugar cookie and added a bit more sprinkles than even she intended. 🙂 After the games were played and the cookies decorated and quickly eaten the kids handed out their specially made Valentine’s to the parents. It warmed my heart to see Addie’s reasons that she loves me and her daddy. I especially love the, “you let me take pictures” reason. 😉
When Addie came home that night her Valentine’s Bounty was large and I was left wondering how I was going to hide all of the candy she received. Addie’s Valentine’s to her classmates included heart erasers instead of candy. I know you can only receive so many erasers and pencils (which seemed to be the go-to candy alternative this year) but at least those were easier to sneak into the trash then the candy. Did your kids receive a lot of candy this year?
Weekend Recap: Springtime in February
As the title to this post mentions, Springtime decided to make a gorgeous appearance this past weekend and I am not complaining at all. It arrived in full force on Friday with clear skies, an abundance of sunshine and gloriously warm temperatures. We took full advantage at my office and opened the front door to the building to let in the fresh air. There is something about the first time you open the windows and doors up after a long Winter that is such a release. Smelling that fresh air and standing in the warm sunshine instantly put my mood in a happy place.
Saturday morning started early, as it usually does in our household but I somehow woke with a smile. The sound of the birds singing and the promise of sunshine and 70 degrees for the day probably had something to do with it. Matt was off at 7 am to work and Addie and I had some errands to run. We both had fun getting ready for the day and had a little picture fun before heading out.

Addie’s 5th birthday (be still my heart) is coming up in a week-and-a-half and her party is in 2 weeks so I needed to start getting stuff together for the party. Where else do you stop for party favors and fun decorations than Target of course! Springtime has already arrived in most of the stores and Target was no exception. The dollar section of Target is my FAVORITE part of the store, especially for decorations and little party favors. I always go crazy in that section. Check out the stuff I got for her party! I can’t wait to put it together.
As this is the first real birthday party we’ve ever thrown for Addie I want to make sure it’s extra special, without being over the top and expensive. That’s why I’m trying to contain the decorations and party favors to the dollar section at Target. P.S. How cute are these canvas bags and flower pots?! One thing I wanted to be extra special is her cake. That’s why I went to this adorable shop on Main Street in Dubuque called Candle Ready Cakes. Their cupcakes are beyond delicious and their cake designs are adorable. I let Addie choose the flavor and design of her cake and she went with a Minnie Mouse cake for the party. I can’t wait to see it and eat it!
Fresh Air and A Jump start on Spring Cleaning
After we ran our errands we headed home, with the windows open! Once home, we made sure all of the windows in the house were open and we enjoyed a quick lunch before heading outside to fully enjoy the sunshine. Addie was pretty tired already so we weren’t outside for too long before she wanted to take a rest but we got in a nice walk and played in the park first. While Addie rested I was totally energized and took advantage of it by going through Addie’s massive amount of toys. I threw out what was no good, which filled a large garbage bag by the way. I then packed up the toys and stuffed animals that haven’t seen the light of day in ages. The amount of toys I packed up was a little disturbing.
When all was cleared out and reorganized I felt so much better about what was left. Things are much more organized now and Addie was already playing with things that she hadn’t touched in a while because she had forgotten she had them. I’ve definitely been inspired to take a much more minimalist approach to Addie’s toy collection going forward. That’s why I’ve decided to gift Addie a day out with me having her first professional mani-pedi instead of giving her yet another toy she’ll quickly forget about. We’re also taking Addie away the weekend after her birthday to The Grand Harbor Resort for a fun family weekend all about her. Since Addie was given a generous gift certificate to the resort from her Great Uncle for Christmas it won’t cost us anything but a small amount of gas. Win-Win!
By the end of Saturday, we were all exhausted from the sunshine and fresh air. That’s the best kind of exhaustion because it means that we’ve had a full day of fresh air and playing outside. Not bad for a Saturday in February! Sunday was our normal, stay home and get caught up on chores, at least for me. 😉 I took advantage of the continued Spring-like weather and got outside as much as possible with Matt and Addie. We enjoyed a nice family walk and Addie got her sidewalk chalk out for a little driveway art. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful weekend. I’m definitely thankful for all that it had to offer us.
Today brought us gray skies and rain but the rest of the week promises to still be warm and mostly sunny. I know this weather won’t stay but I’ll definitely hold on to it to get me through the rest of Winter before Spring comes to stay for good. What were you guys up to this past weekend? Let me know in the comments below. Have a great week Lovelies!
