Happy Monday Lovelies!!! I hope you all had a nice weekend and stayed safe, as a lot of you might have gotten stuck in that horrible Winter Storm? We lucked out and it stayed away for most of the weekend. Not so lucky is that it showed up just in time for the new work week. 😦 We had a lovely weekend, though, that wound up being full of sunshine and loaded with fun. This week’s Weekend Recap is all about Icefest, cousins, and an easy Sunday. Check it out and have a great week ya’ll!
Okay so this was from our Family Night on Thursday but I just had to share these sweet moments between Matt and Addie. I posted last week on Instagram about how much I love capturing these quiet moments between the two of them. Matt’s outnumbered by us girls and he gets the brunt of our ever changing moods at times. lol He is the most loving daddy and husband and we are so lucky to have him.

We actually got Addie the Fairy Garden a while back but I poured all of the seeds in by mistake so the plants didn’t last long. Oops. These two were a Christmas gift from her great-aunt and great-uncle. Addie could not wait to put them both together. She LOVES checking on her Terrarium every morning to see how things are growing. We’ll probably be getting the Fairy Garden all set up this week because she had so much fun with the last one.
Since the Winter storm seemed to be holding off on Saturday we headed to our favorite family destination, The National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium for Icefest. We were gifted an Annual Family Membership for Christmas and just love spending the day here. There were so many great activities for Icefest, including live animal programs, a snow slide, and snow sculpting demonstrations.
I did not feel like wearing my coat around the museum so I left it in the car. I didn’t realize that they would have a mini snow slide for the kids. While Matt helped Addie snowshoe and sled I watched from the warmth of indoors.
The interactive play area at the museum is so great. We always spend so much time here as Addie plays in the water and learns about dams, weather, and the local wildlife.
The Sting Ray Touch Pool is one of Addie’s favorite areas. The delight on her face when she’s able to pet one is magical.
Whenever we’re out and about I ensure that we have a bag full of healthy goodies to keep us fueled up. Larabars, Annie’s Organic Fruit Snacks, and Dates are some of our favorites. Packing snacks helps to curb our hunger, which saves us money by not eating out every time we’re out and about.
We had a late lunch after our museum and aquarium fun. I love Matt’s egg salad because he seasons it to taste similar to deviled egg filling. I opted for no ham but did try some of Matt’s. It’s such an easy way to add a little more substance to the egg salad and it was pretty yummy.
After Addie and Matt returned from a little outdoor fun we settled in for a game of Slap Jack. Addie gave me this crazy excited smile every time she set a card down because she couldn’t wait for the Jack to appear so she could try to slap it before me.
Addie loves playing cards and learning new games. This Disney Junior Playing Card Games Superset has three decks of cards with 3 of her favorite Disney Junior characters, Sofia the First, Minnie Mouse and Doc McStuffins. These holders are great for helping little hands hold the cards. Addie likes to see how many she can get in before they fall out. lol
Addie had a Sunday afternoon play date with one of her cousins. Addie is absolutely obsessed with setting up indoor picnics right now. The girls got right to it and then settled in for snacks and a Disney movie.
If Addie had it her way she’d have a picnic of chocolate and marshmallows every time. We compromise with apples, graham crackers, Larabars and Annie’s Organic Fruit Snacks. Both the Larabars and the fruit snacks come in so many delicious flavors. There are no processed sugars and the Larabars are dairy-free and gluten-free! Addie gets the sweet she is craving and I get to feel good about feeding her healthy snacks.
Our nephew came along for the play date. We let him stay close to the picnic action by giving him a tambourine and this great VTech Spin and Learn Flashlight. It is made for kids a bit older but he loved the lights and sounds.
After the picnic, the girls decided they wanted to make cats and dogs. We pulled out the Alex Toys Giant Art Jar to get them started. She’s had this forever, find a similar Alex Toys craft bin here. The girls had so much fun putting their animals together, as the aftermath shows.
Sunday Dinner consisted of my Manloaf Meatloaf (get my recipe here) and these super delicious and easy roasted Brussel sprouts. The whole family pops them like candy. I found the recipe here. I didn’t have any lemons or lemon juice this time but they were still amazing.
